“Why Nordic Star Yarns?"

I started Nordic Star Yarns as a simple online fiber event directory during the pandemic. As recovery and healing emerged, fiber artists began searching for their in-person communities. I wanted to create a resource that would be a light and beacon to bring us together. That resource grew into an online boutique where I now share my brilliant hand-dyed yarns.

“Why do your yarns look so different?!”

You can’t miss our collection of bold and vivid colors. I personally dye, skein, and label every small batch of ethically sourced yarn. This is a labor of love, and I love offering quality art yarn at a price that is accessible to makers.

“What’s your inspiration?”

As a formally educated classical musician, I can trace my earliest orchestral fascination to the swirling scores behind Mary Poppins’ umbrella and Wile E. Coyote’s TNT. In my yarns, you’ll see the lights of Broadway, Saturday morning cartoons, Sunday morning funny papers, Pop artists such as Warhol and Lichtenstein, and Fauvist artists such as Matisse and Chagall. There’s even a Nordic Star Yarns shop playlist on YouTube Music!

“What’s your best seller?”

Our most popular base is the 70 mohair/30 silk lace weight yarn. Each colorway is dyed across the full product line, so you can hold your mohair with a matching or coordinating fingering, DK, worsted, or bulky weight yarn. It’s also a delightful beauty when worked up on alone in a single strand. Customers’ favorite colorways this season were Ron Burgundy, Lavender Mist, and Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!

“Do you wholesale?”

My number one goal for Nordic Star Yarns is to make fun, beautiful art. I’m always excited to dye up a custom order, and you can contact me here if you have a special request. I also enjoy trunk shows, so I’d love to hear from host yarn shops.

“Who are you?”

I’m a wife, empty nest mom to a lovely young adult, full time desk worker (non-yarn related), and small batch yarn artist. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in music, and I play flute. I love classical, Broadway, and especially jazz— it shows in my yarns! My favorite fiber activities are garment sewing, quilting, embroidery, knitting, and crochet. When I have leftover time and energy, I like running, triathlon, tennis, yoga, and dyeing yarn.
